(Ebru News/AP) Fireworks filled the sky in Istanbul on Monday to mark the end of 'Republic Day' in Turkiye. The fireworks over the 'Bosphorus Strait' were for the 84th anniversary of the Turkish Republic's creation. Republic Day is celebrated every year on October 29th to commemorate the day in 1923 when Turkiye became a republic.
After the fireworks in Istanbul thousands of people marched through the Asian side of the Strait waving Turkish flags and carrying posters of Turkish soldiers killed in ambushes by PKK terrorists.
One marcher said she thought there should be a military offensive against the terrorists.
"A lot of young people have died. They should put a stop to this," she said.
PKK terrorists have killed at least 44 people in the past month, according to government and media reports.
Those casualties include an estimated 30 Turkish soldiers killed in the boldest attacks in years - increasing domestic pressure on Turkiye's prime minister to act.
