Turkish President Abdullah Gül on Thursday shared photos on Twitter from his hospital bed at Hacettepe University where is receiving medical treatment for a recurring ear problem.

Gül celebrated Victory Day, which is celebrated every year on Aug. 30 to mark the military victory in the final battle of Turkey's Independence War in 1922, on Twitter on Thursday. Expressing regret that he could not attend the official celebrations as per doctor's recommendation, Gül said he will stay at the hospital for a few more days. “Thanks to God, my health is improving. My doctors are sharing the most recent information [about my health] with you,” Gül said.

Stating that he has received numerous messages from across Turkey wishing him a speedy recovery, Gül thanked all those who sent him messages and prayers.

“Meanwhile, I am not wasting my time in hospital. I am going ahead with my studies. I am reading reports and books,” Gül tweeted with a photo, in which he is reading a report which includes information about clashes in Syria and has a map of the area where the civil war is escalating. The photo also draws attention to two books on Gül's nightstand: “Decision Points,” a memoir by former US President George W. Bush, and “Elif,” a novel by Paulo Coelho.

The president was hospitalized on Aug. 23, cutting short a visit to Kyrgyzstan for the Second Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (CCTS) in Bishkek, a visit he had begun last Wednesday.

Gül has postponed all foreign trips in the coming two months at the request of his doctors, who also said his situation was improving and that he can slowly resume his daily activities.
