Ergenekon Members Face Charges
(Ebru news/ Istanbul) As we've been hearing, the defendants in the Ergenekon case are being tried with some extraordinary offenses.
The indictment is said to be the most comprehensive case in the history of Turkiye since the Republican period. 86 suspects in all have been charged.
AYKUT JENGHIZ ENGIN, CHIEF PROSECUTOR said:
"Besides the definition of terror organizations which have ideological and separatist foundations, terror offense is described as any actions which aim to weaken or seize the authority of the state, to break the public order or internal and external security of the state by persons who are the members of an organization, according to the Article 1 of the Law of Struggling with Terror."
According to the details in the Ergenekon indictment, this organization has executives.
AYKUT JENGHIZ ENGIN, CHIEF PROSECUTOR said:
"The executives of the terror organization are charged with the total of the actions carried out by the organization. It can be understood when the indictment is examined members of the organization who have no executive posts are indicted with the offenses that they have been individually involved."
The indictment prepared by the Office of the Istanbul Prosecutor and filed with the 13th Criminal Court is expected to reach a decision to sustain or dismiss the indictment within 15 days.
