Heavy rains submerge Philippine capital, killing 9

  • Tue Aug 7th 2012

Emergency crews are trying to rescue tens of thousands of people after relentless rains triggered a landslide in part of the Philippine capital of Manila. Nine people have been killed.

Manila and other parts of the country already were saturated from a typhoon last week. That storm caused at least 53 deaths.

The deluge is the worst since 2009, when hundreds died in rampaging flash floods.
