Turkic-American Alliance & Rumi Forum Unite Cultures
Ramadan is a time of fasting and introspection for Muslims across the globe. It also brings people together at Iftar. At sundown, those who have fasted, break bread together, as a sign of community and bonhomie. The Turkic American Alliance & Rumi Forum organized the Annual Intercultural Ramadan Iftar Dinner at Washington DC.
These organizations intend to foster inter-cultural and inter-faith dialogue.
Guests gathered at the iftar dinner, to share a meal, and some conversation.
Zoran Jolevski, Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia gushed, "Sharing the meals with the people who are your friends, with whom you work but from different religious groups is important part of the culture and it helps also to strengthen the ties between the people."
For the Muslims, it was a time of thanksgiving and togetherness. As the attendees mingled, they exchanged ideas across faiths and cultures.
"The fast highlights and teaches us the benefits of friendship, tolerance, mutual understanding and sympathy. This event strengthens the spiritual expression of collaboration and friendship among all of us as one family,” added Amélia Matos Sumbana, Ambassador of the Republic of Mozambique
The iftar dinner is a forum to unite people across religious, national and ethnic boundaries. The guests enjoyed the spiritual and culinary experience.
Douglas Johnston, International Center for Religion and Diplomacy concluded, "God didn't make us one...made us into separate nations and tribes that we may know one another, co-operate with one another and compete with one another in good works. Let us be about this competition and good work."
The sumptuous buffet had wholesome food in lentils, pilaf, and some delectable savory and sweet preparations.
