(Ebru News/AP) North Texas was hit by a series of storms on Tuesday, bringing strong winds and heavy rains that caused flooding throughout the region. More than 5 inches of rain fell in parts of Dallas by early evening, when the rainfall finally began to slow.
Hundreds of flights were canceled and other diverted at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport where winds of more than 100 miles per hour were reported.
In the Dallas suburb of Lancaster, Ten Mile Creek spilled its banks after day long rains, flooding at least one house and leaving a handful of cars stuck in watery streets.
In Red Oak, just south of Dallas, about 17 mobile homes were cleared out as a precautionary measure as Red Oak Creek continued to rise, according to local police.
Dozens of streets were closed off in the Dallas area as waters continued to rise.
A Dallas Area Rapid Transit bus had to be abandoned by the driver and passengers when it became stranded in high water. Nobody was hurt.
Meanwhile in Mesquite, Texas, emergency services searched for a 14-year-old boy apparently swept away by floodwaters as he and a friend played in a creek.
The National Weather Service posted flood and flash flood warnings from Texas to Ohio, with tornado watches in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.
