Gulen Institute Honor World Youth in Washington DC
In the first year since the Gulen Institute Youth Platform launched its international essay contest, it has succeeded in attracting entries from students all over the world.
More than 600 students from 53 countries and 35 states in the U.S. sent in their essays.
The topic: “The use of military means as a solution to today’s international and national political issues: Diplomacy or war, democracy or military coup?”
The Gulen Institute along with the Rumi Forum in Washington, D.C. invited winners of the essay contest on a 4-day excursion to Washington, D.C. between April 4th and April 8th.
The winners, their parents and a group of educators had the opportunity to tour the nation's capital, meet with members of Congress and community leaders and visit think-tanks.
On April 6th, the students who won the contest received their awards from embassy representatives, as well as Congressional members.
Congressman Gene Green and Congressman Ted Poe served as co-chairs of the award ceremony in the Rayburn House, a congressional office building.
They attended the ceremony and welcomed students along with other members of Congress like Peter Roskam, Sheila Jackson Lee and Bob Filner.
After the ceremony, students, their families and educators thanked the Gulen Institute and Rumi Forum for organizing the event.
They said that they felt honored and fortunate to have met Congressional members and representatives from the embassies of their countries.
They also said it was a great opportunity to exchange ideas with their peers from all over the world.
